HOW SIR WILLIAM OSLER was influenced by Carlyle's quotation above ?
Sir William Osler was one of the most reputed physicians of Canada.While studying medicine at the University of Montral he was depressed and anxiety filled. His mind remained unfocussed and feared of the future.He stumbled upon the quotation of Carlyle by chance as if it was God-sent and it instantly changed him !Influenced by this quoataion and adapting himself to this principle, Sir Willian Osler went on to become Professor Emeritus of JohnHopkins Institute. Once while addressing a crowd he remarked thus:
"My reputation as a popular writer,a distinguished Professor of a reputed University like Oxford may lead some of you to think that I am a born genius. But that is not the truth. My close friends know how mediocre my intellectual powers are."
